What is Local Authority Flex Scheme?
Local Authority Flexibility (LA Flex) is part of the government’s ECO scheme and is designed to help people across the UK ,who are living in fuel poverty to avoid having a cold home.
This is even if you aren’t receiving means tested benefits for example Universal Credits or Job Seekers Allowance, you could still qualify for help and support towards the cost of adding loft, underfloor and cavity wall insulation, along with other energy efficiency improvements.
Who Can Benefit from LA Flex?
- Low-income households that do not receive income-based benefits but are still considered vulnerable
- Households with medical conditions that are made worse by living in a cold home (e.g., asthma, arthritis, or heart disease)
- People living in fuel poverty or areas with high energy costs but who don’t qualify for the standard ECO criteria
- Properties with poor energy performance (typically Energy Performance Certificate [EPC] ratings of D, E, F, or G)
Types of Improvements Funded:
- Insulation improvements to loft, cavity wall and solid wall
- Boiler replacements or upgrades
- Heating system improvements upgrading to more efficient systems like heat pumps
- Renewable energy installations in some cases
Benefits of LA Flex:
- Local approach which gives councils the flexibility to support the households that need it most in their areas
- Expanded eligibility which helps households who may not qualify for other national schemes but are still struggling with energy costs or have specific needs
- Customised solutions which will enable local authorities to design schemes that focus on specific vulnerabilities and community priorities.
